KDKA is a station broadcasting to the Pittsburgh metro area, and also streaming online. Rick Dayton brings his journalistic expertise to KDKA Radio every weekday afternoon with The Rick Dayton Show, a short-form daily feature which is also published as a podcast.
As was pointed out during the show, there has been a growing number of fraud cases across the country. Monica Eaton, Founder of Chargeback911, joined Rick to talk about the problem. Monica also weighed in on what you can do to avoid having your information stolen.
Monica described the current situation as “the perfect storm” regarding fraud. “There’s more criminal activity,” she says. “Of course, because the entire ecosystem has changed since covid, peoples’ behaviors have changed, there’s new merchants entering new spheres they’ve never done any business in. And, as a result, all these different loopholes are being exploited by fraudsters. Plus, you have a lot of consumers that are exploiting the system as well.
“We have ‘new’ everywhere. And whenever you have ‘new’, it creates new opportunities and technologies, but also a lot of new challenges for fraud.”
