Author Paul Nolan asked Monica to offer her thoughts as part of a special report titled Managing for Peak Performance in a Remote Worker World. This new report aims to offer insight for business leaders still struggling to adjust to managing a remote workforce given the pressures of the COVID-19 lockdown. As Monica points out, not all struggles are material; in many cases, they’re tied to the team’s identity.
“One of the unique challenges of a remote workforce is maintaining a culture of being part of a team,” Monica says. “It’s all too easy for employees to slip through the cracks and feel isolated from their peers, which in turn leads to low morale. It’s become increasingly important to recreate community wherever possible, even in small ways.”
Adjustment to the “new normal” hasn’t been easy for anyone. But, as Monica points out, everyone is in this together. “I think we need to remember that we all have jobs to do and we should be committed to making the best of a difficult situation.”
