As we covered in a recent post, Pinellas County high school students were collectively awarded $135,000 this year for improving their grades and literacy levels through the Paid for Grades program. As reported in a new feature for Fox 13 Tampa Bay, this is the 12th year of this amazing, performance-based literacy initiative backed by Clearwater-based fintech company Chargebacks911.
WTVT FOX13 is a television station licensed to Tampa, Florida, United States, broadcasting the Fox network to the Tampa Bay area. Owned and operated by the network's Fox Television Stations division, WTVT maintains studios on Kennedy Boulevard on Tampa's west side, and its transmitter is located in Riverview.
Paid for Grades is a revolutionary program designed to incentivize students to reach their potential. Through the program, ninth graders at four schools located in Pinellas County — Boca Ciega, Lakewood, East Lake, and Hollins High Schools — had the chance to earn cash rewards for improving their academic performance. In the process, students learned that they were capable of achieving more than they might have realized before.
Hundreds of students have completed the Paid for Grades program since 2013. And, as the primary financial backers of the program, Chargebacks911 have contributed more than $1.5 million to local students and schools through Paid for Grades.
“If you change the life of one student, that has such an amazing effect, it could change the life of an entire generation,” says Chargebacks911 CEO Monica Eaton.
