Internet Service Provider
An internet service provider (ISP) is a company that provides access to the internet. That part is pretty self-explanatory. But more than one type of company can be an ISP. Cable providers, mobile carriers, and telephone companies can sell net access, even if that isn’t their main line of business.
Some companies may focus on providing a single product, such as fiber-optic internet access. Other businesses may offer a range of products, from cable and internet access to wireless services and phone accessories.
Modern ISPs offer various types of internet connections – including broadband, fiber optic, DSL, and satellite – which enable users to “plug-in” from just about anywhere. ISP typically sell their services on a subscription-basis, offering different plans with varying speeds, features, and pricing to suit different user needs.
