Monica Eaton Interviewed by WFLA News

Monica Discusses the Capital One Hack & How to Secure Consumer Data

Cybersecurity is back in the forefront of consumers’ minds in the wake of recent news stories surrounding data and breaches. Chargebacks911® COO Monica Eaton sat down with WFLA to discuss data security and how consumers can protect themselves.

The first topic of discussion was the recent controversy around the popular FaceApp tool. In response to concerns about Russian developers storing users’ data, Monica suggested the issue is more fundamental. Instead of worrying about one app, users should be cognizant of all data they sign away to developers.

“It all has to do with data, and actually knowing what FaceApp can do with your data,” Monica says. “At the end of the day, as a consumer, you should…take some caution and understand, ultimately, what you’re doing with that data, and what could [the developers] do with it.”

The Capital One hack announced late last month was another topic of discussion. For this, Monica suggested the most basic thing to do is change your passwords for important accounts regularly. “Even if you think you weren’t a victim, it’s a good idea, just as a protocol change your password.”
