Monica Eaton Says Stand Up for Yourself at Work, but Be Respectful
Many people feel underappreciated or overlooked at work. In a recent feature for UpJourney, Chargebacks911 COO Monica Eaton-Carone and several other business leaders offered their tips on how to get the respect you deserve.
UpJourney is a site focused on publishing articles, courses, and books that can teach readers how to improve their lives. They use positive guidance to help readers achieve goals, improve their communication skills, and ultimately, find their life purpose.
“When you stand up for yourself at work, it’s important to think about how your actions will be perceived by others,” Monica explains in the post. “I’ve found it’s a balancing act between having confidence in your abilities and not being too aggressive.”
You can speak up and advocate for yourself without the need to trample over others. It’s important to strike that delicate balance between asserting yourself and remembering to respect other people around you.
“If you have a confrontation with a coworker and feel like you’ve been disrespected, it’s important to remain respectful towards the other person while standing your ground. When backed into a corner, it’s easy to allow your emotions to dominate the situation. I suggest bringing in an objective third party to help facilitate the conversation and resolve conflict.”
