As one of the world's foremost experts in disputes and friendly fraud, Chargebacks911 Founder Monica Eaton was recently sought out for a news feature on how chargeback abuse is affecting small businesses.
KSNV is a Nevada-based station and an NBC Television affiliate owned and operated by Sinclair Broadcast Group. Sinclair owns and operates 163 television stations in 77 markets, with their stations reaching approximately 38.7% of US television households.
The piece focuses on one business owner local to the Las Vegas area, who reports that her boutique has been devastated by friendly fraud. As Monica explains, this is no isolated incident.
"Consumers start out exploiting this opportunity,” she explains. “There's no friction or penalty, and they get away with getting the refund and the product for free.”
Monica further elaborates that friendly fraud incidents in the US have spiked 75% since the beginning of 2022. While some speculate that the situation is tied to ongoing pandemic concerns, experts still aren't sure what caused the sudden spike.
