Monica Eaton was recently invited to share her insights regarding the FTC’s new “click to cancel” rules with a new guest feature for Retail Touchpoints.
Retail TouchPoints is an online publishing network for retail executives, offering content focused on optimizing the customer experience across all channels. They rely on expertise and insight from every corner of the market to help improve global retail operations.
According to Monica, the new rules require the cancelation process for subscriptions be just as easy as the sign up process. “Businesses must now focus on improving their subscription cancellation process and investing in self-service tools for reactivating subscriptions and managing automated billing,” she says.
Of course, while businesses may not love the idea of more regulations, this change really is a step in the right direction. It will create a more consumer-friendly experience, and will ultimately benefit merchants in the long run.
“Moreover, the proposed rule change may help prevent instances of first-party chargeback misuse, which plague subscription-based businesses. This will encourage retailers to be more proactive in providing comprehensive self-service tools that cater to the changing needs of consumers.”
