Chargebacks911® COO’s June Feature for Newsmax
Biometric technology is here. In her latest thought piece for Newsmax Finance, Chargebacks911 COO Monica Eaton explores how this revolutionary tool could help card-not-present (CNP) merchants. Just one problem, though: as usual, brick-and-mortar sellers get help first, leaving CNP merchants behind.
Biometric tools can be adopted in the eCommerce environment, using the technology we already have at our disposal. This would allow for greater convenience, multifactor payments authentication, and the same tokenization technology used by EMV chip cards.
Customers like biometrics, but we’re not seeing much use yet in eCommerce. As Monica points out, this follows an unfortunate—but typical—pattern.
“As with other security innovations in the past, there’s more attention placed on POS anti-fraud measures than card-not-present ones,” Monica points out. “It’s not surprising that the industry is more focused on implementing the technology in stores; after all, security in the brick-and-mortar environment is a much simpler prospect than online.”
Of course, even with better protections, biometric tech is not foolproof. It’s not the solution, but rather, part of a broader, comprehensive strategy.
