Says Contactless “Makes it Easy,” but Also Warns of Fraud Risk

Don Bush, VP of Sales and Marketing at Chargebacks911, recently spoke with Niccole Caan of KENS 5 News to offer some great insights on the ups and downs of contactless payments adoption.

Since 1950, the people of KENS 5 have strived to be the best, most trusted news, and entertainment source in San Antonio, Texas. As a CBS affiliate, they emphasize running stories with global and national impacts, contextualized through a localized perspective for viewers.

As explained in the piece, convenience and ease of use are the chief selling points of contactless payments. However, the technology has taken on a new dimension since the onset of the COVID-19 outbreak, as it allows customers to checkout in-store, without the need to touch a payment terminal.

“Basically, I can take my phone, touch a register that’s ready to use it and the payment is done so as not to touch anything,” Don explains. “Nothing has to be cleaned. It makes it easy.”

Contactless payments may well represent the future of in-store transactions. But, while the chances of someone stealing your information through contactless payment skimming are low, the possibility still exists. Consumers need to take special precautions to protect themselves from this technological threat source.

“Let your bank know as soon as possible,” Don says, discussing what consumers should do in the event of a security incident. “They’ll cancel that card. They’ll send you another one.” This can be an inconvenience, but it’s a small price to pay to protect yourself.
