Monica Eaton Says Chargeback Issuances Will Rise Post-Brexit
Chargebacks911 COO Monica Eaton, one of the world’s leading experts on retail and payments, was asked to offer her expertise as part of a new feature for the IMRG blog. In the post, Monica and her fellow experts suggest that Brexit will have a profound impact on the market, especially considering how we manage payment disputes.
IMRG is the UK’s leading online retail association. They offer resources for online retailers and help members to understand and improve their online retail performance through a program of performance benchmarking, data analysis, insight, best practice sharing, and events. IMRG’s membership community is comprised of businesses of all sizes, as well as a wide range of solution providers to the industry.
It’s difficult to predict how an unprecedented event like Brexit will impact the market. However, this can be an indicator on its own. As Monica points out, there are some trends that always go hand-in-hand with uncertainty.
“We foresee a sharp rise in chargebacks instigated by international customers due to Brexit-caused issues and delays at customs,” Monica says. “Yes, consumers should always be completely protected when transacting, however, seeing the chargeback model as an easy fallback option while retailers try to get their heads around the extended red tape leaves it open to abuse.”
As uncertainty mounts and the process of the UK extricating itself from the EU drags on, we’re going to see chargeback concerns continue to grow.
