Monica Eaton Warns Digital Advertisers to Watch for Affiliate Fraud
Chargebacks911 COO Monica Eaton was asked to share her expertise on affiliate marketing—and how fraudsters abuse the practice—as part of a recent post on the IMRG blog.
IMRG is the UK’s leading online retail association. They offer resources for online retailers and help members to understand and improve their online retail performance through a program of performance benchmarking, data analysis, insight, best practice sharing, and events. IMRG’s membership community is comprised of businesses of all sizes, as well as a wide range of solution providers to the industry.
Retailers have abundant opportunity to use digital assets to generate new revenue. They need to be careful, though, as there are new challenges to consider alongside those new opportunities.
When people think about criminal fraud, they usually imagine a seedy character using stolen card numbers to submit unauthorized transactions. However, there are lots of fraud tactics out there. In fact, one of the fastest-growing threats is a practice known as affiliate fraud.
“Fraudsters love affiliate marketing,” Monica explains in the piece. “It’s an easy way to siphon sales commissions from unsuspecting merchants who often aren’t aware that they are being defrauded.”
