Monica Eaton Holds One-on-One with Merchant About Chargebacks
Chargebacks911 COO Monica Eaton sat down with an online merchant in a new one-on-one feature for The Paypers. Their illuminating conversation got to the heart of merchants’ chargeback worries, and what they can do about them.
The Paypers is the Netherlands-based leading independent source of news and intelligence for professionals in the global payment community. The outlet provides a wide range of news and analysis products aimed at keeping the e-commerce, fintech, and payment professionals informed about the latest developments in the industry.
As the digital merchant featured in the piece put it, “Sometimes I feel like issuers are out to get me.” They’re not alone in that sentiment; retailers think about chargebacks in a very different manner compared to banks and cardholders. To them, chargebacks are not a well-intentioned protection mechanism, but rather a hard-to-prevent source of revenue loss.
Monica understands merchants’ struggles. As a former eCommerce merchant herself, Monica’s own experiences inspired her to create Chargebacks911 in 2011. “Don’t worry, most merchants feel the same; like there’s a black hole in their chargebacks knowledge and the processes surrounding them,” she says. “When you feel like there’s no way your dispute can be rejected and it still is, it can feel a bit hopeless.”
Sometimes, it can feel like issuers are “out to get” merchants; the deck is stacked against them, and it seems impossible to prevent disputes. As Monica explains, though, there is hope, if merchants are proactive about chargebacks.
