# Best Chargeback Management Software

## Evaluating the Best Chargeback Management Software Providers

I’m going to preface this article by saying up front: I think that Chargebacks911 is the right pick for best chargeback management software. That shouldn’t really come as a surprise, given that I’m writing this for the Chargebacks911 blog.

But, here’s the thing: *I don’t expect you to just take my word for it*. Nor would I really want you to.

I think it’s important that we look at the rest of the field. “Chargeback management software” can be a rather vague term, and not all offerings that get lumped into that grouping do exactly the same thing.

One provider might be best for enterprise merchants who want fraud screening and [dispute management](https://chargebacks911.com/dispute-management-system/ "Dispute Management System") on a single platform. Others are better for merchants who want fraud liability transferred, rather than managed. And some are for high-volume enterprises that are only concerned about pre-transaction fraud screening.

The right choice depends less on which platform is strongest overall and more on which of three distinct jobs your disputes actually require. That distinction is where most software purchases in this category go wrong.

So, that’s what I want to talk about today. I’m going to help you explore what different providers offer, and see which one is really best for your specific needs.

## What Does Chargeback Management Software Do?

### Chargeback Management Software

\[noun\]/chärj • bak • man • ij • mənt • sôft • wer/

Chargeback management software is a software platform that reduces the cost of payment disputes, whether by preventing them before they occur, resolving them before they become [chargebacks](https://chargebacks911.com/chargebacks/ "Chargebacks 101"), or recovering funds after they’re filed.

So, before we can weigh the candidates, we have to clarify what we’re talking about. There are three distinct activities that are frequently sold under the “chargeback management software” label. Each solves a totally different problem:

1. Before the salePrevention

[Chargeback prevention](https://chargebacks911.com/prevent-chargebacks/ "Prevent Chargebacks") occurs pre-transaction, and eliminates the conditions that cause a dispute. Fraud screening and authentication are both examples, as are optimizations like deploying clearer billing descriptors and tightening fulfillment protocols.

    - Clear billing descriptors
    - Tight fulfillment

Keeps it out of your ratio?YesNo dispute is ever filed, so there’s nothing to count.
2. Dispute raised, before a chargebackDeflection

Chargeback deflection resolves a dispute before it becomes a chargeback. Examples include alerts delivered through Verifi CDRN and Ethoca, plus tools like Order Insight and Consumer Clarity that share transaction details with the issuer while the cardholder is still asking questions.

3. After the chargeback is filedRecovery

Chargeback recovery means fighting chargebacks that get filed through [representment](https://chargebacks911.com/representment/). In other words, examining a case, then compiling and submitting evidence to try and reverse a dispute and recover the revenue that would’ve been lost.

    - Case review
    - Evidence
    - Submission

Keeps it out of your ratio?NoUnder most network calculations, a won representment still counts.

\* On Visa, the issuer’s fraud report still counts toward the VAMP ratio when a fraud dispute is resolved through RDR or CDRN.

## The Distinction Decides Your Shortlist

A platform that offers fraud screening and a platform that offers tactical chargeback representment could both be marketed as chargeback software. They address different problems, though.

Fraud screening blocks third-party fraud attempts where a criminal used stolen credentials to submit unauthorized purchases. It doesn’t do anything against [friendly fraud](https://chargebacks911.com/friendly-fraud/), though, because the cardholder is legitimate and the credentials are real. The transaction would pass every check a screening tool performs.

Fraud screening would offer no help once a chargeback gets filed. But at the same time, a service that offers transaction representment is not going to stop pre-transaction criminal attacks.

See what I mean?

You need to run a quick diagnostic before you shop. Pull your disputes by [reason code](https://chargebacks911.com/chargeback-reason-codes/) and examine them.

Start hereYour disputes, sorted by reason code

If yesOperationsAn operational fixOr maybe the bulk of your disputes are tied to service and product complaints. If the claims are legit, then that means the fix is operational in nature.

You can’t look for a solution to a problem until you know what the problem really is.

## How We Compared These Tools

This assessment is based on public vendor documentation available as of October 2026, scored against three criteria:

  ![Tip](https://chargebacks911.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/NEW-ICONS-DuoTone-Lineal-Icons-July2022-Update.svg) ### Workflow Automation

How much of the dispute lifecycle runs without human intervention. Variables include intake, evidence assembly, submission, deadline tracking, and reporting.

  ![Tip](https://chargebacks911.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/NEW-ICONS-DuoTone-Lineal-Icons-July2022-Update.svg) ### Revenue Recovery

Does the provider represent disputes on your behalf? Across what share of your dispute volume? And does the fee structure aligns their incentive with yours?

  ![Tip](https://chargebacks911.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/NEW-ICONS-DuoTone-Lineal-Icons-July2022-Update.svg) ### Friendly Fraud Prevention

Whether the provider addresses first-party misuse specifically through pre-dispute data sharing, root cause analysis, and representment built for cases where the cardholder authorized the purchase.

Now for a few caveats.

First, capabilities in this category change frequently, so confirm current specifics with any vendor before you buy. Also, note that advertised win rates are worth less than they appear. None are audited, and vendors don’t share a definition of a win, a measurement period, or a denominator.

There’s also an incentive problem. A provider paid a percentage of recovered funds has a direct interest in fighting only its strongest cases, which raises the published win rate while lowering total recovery. A vendor winning 50% of every dispute can return more money than one winning 80% of a carefully chosen third.

Win rate vs. coverageThe better win rate *recovers less*

Two vendors, the same 60 disputes of equal value

Vendor AFights every disputeRepresents60 of 60Win rate50%

30disputes recoveredhalf of everything disputed

vs Vendor BFights only its strongest thirdRepresents20 of 60Win rate80%Looks better

16disputes recovered40 were never fought

WonFought and lostNever fought

The lower win rate brings back **nearly twice as much money**: 30 recovered disputes against 16.

Important!Ask what share of your disputes a vendor will represent, not just what share it wins. [Our guide to chargeback win rates](https://chargebacks911.com/chargeback-management/chargeback-win-rate/) covers how to calculate the figure that actually matters.

### Chargebacks911

*Best for enterprise merchants needing full-lifecycle dispute management.*

Chargebacks911 covers deflection and recovery as a single operation rather than separate purchases. The Alerts Management Platform provides access to Verifi CDRN and Ethoca Alerts through one dashboard, alongside a proprietary alert network.

On the diagnostic side, there’s Intelligent Source Detection®, which combines machine learning with human review to identify the root causes behind recurring disputes. Error-Risk-Threat notifications flag merchant-error liabilities and provide you with specific, actionable steps to correct the problem. That matters a lot for friendly fraud, where the useful question is usually why a pattern of disputes keeps recurring, rather than how to win any single random dispute.

Representment is automated. API integration completes in under 72 hours in most cases, with custom integrations taking longer. The platform currently powers 944 industry integrations, including more than 100 acquirers and processors. This means the Chargebacks911 suite of technologies are available to more than two million merchants, from iconic enterprise brands to small businesses.

Pricing is variable; deflection is priced at a per-alert rate. Chargeback representment is priced on a performance-based model, backed by the industry’s only performance-based ROI guarantee.

![2](https://chargebacks911.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Iconz-Numbers-02.svg)

### Accertify

*Best for enterprise merchants who want fraud screening and dispute management on a single platform.*

Owned by American Express, Accertify spans pre-transaction decisioning through post-dispute management. The ability to consolidate is the draw here: merchants consolidating vendors can replace several point solutions.

It might be fair to say that Accertify is a fraud-prevention platform first, rather than strictly a [chargeback management](https://chargebacks911.com/chargeback-management/ "Chargeback Management") platform. That could be useful if you’re confident about the sources of your chargebacks, and know that they’re the result of third-party criminal activity.

The lack of public pricing, combined with feedback from third-party reporting sites, suggests cost is a barrier for merchants below enterprise scale, though.

![3](https://chargebacks911.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Iconz-Numbers-03.svg)

### Justt

*Best for enterprise merchants concerned primarily with outsourcing representment.*

Justt handles evidence assembly and submission with minimal merchant involvement. This should suit teams that want disputes off their plate, rather than a tool their staff operates.

Like Chargebacks911, they also offer Rapid Dispute Resolution and Verifi and Ethoca alerts. However, without the benefit of additional proprietary coverage offered by Chargebacks911.

Worth noting that Justt publishes substantive thinking on why win rate is a flawed KPI, proposing net dollar recovery as a replacement. That’s an unusually honest position for a vendor whose fees relate to recovery. But, because their fees are performance-based, there’s no public pricing available.

![4](https://chargebacks911.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Iconz-Numbers-04.svg)

### Signifyd

*Best for merchants who want fraud liability transferred, rather than managed.*

Signifyd is primarily a tool aimed at preventing third-party fraud. They deploy AI fraud detection to stop criminal attacks.

Where Signifyd verges into chargeback management is their guarantee model; a kind of “chargeback insurance.” Orders it approves that turn out to be fraudulent are covered, which converts a variable risk into a predictable cost.

Pricing is based on a percentage of approved order value, which means your cost scales with revenue, rather than with disputes. This could work for a merchant with low dispute rates, high volume, and minimal risk of chargebacks resulting from any source besides criminal fraud. So, model it against your own numbers before deciding.

![5](https://chargebacks911.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Iconz-Numbers-05.svg)

### Riskified

*Best for high-volume enterprise pre-transaction fraud screening.*

Riskified’s strength is decisioning at the point of transaction, with machine learning trained across a large merchant network.

Like Signifyd, they offer a chargeback guarantee against disputes on qualifying transactions. They also offer automated tools to assist with chargeback representment. Dispute management is still secondary to prevention, though, with the platform’s main focus being stopping third-party attacks at the pre-transaction stage.

As with any screening-first platform, the fit depends on whether your disputes are driven by third-party fraud or first-party misuse. No public pricing.

![6](https://chargebacks911.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Iconz-Numbers-06.svg)

### Kount

*Best for merchants combining identity verification with dispute tooling.*

Now part of Equifax, Kount’s core strength is identity and device intelligence. Their flagship platform, Kount 360, focuses on linking accounts, devices, and behavioral signals to assess risk before approval.

Dispute features are part of a broader risk platform, rather than being a specific offering here. So, we’re stretching the definition of “chargeback management software” a bit by including them, if I’m being honest.

Kount doesn’t have any applications as far as streamlining chargeback alerts or chargeback representment. They can’t really provide any of the data intelligence necessary to pinpoint chargeback sources, either. But, they’re a viable option if your primary concern is chargebacks resulting from third-party fraud.

![6](https://chargebacks911.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Iconz-Numbers-06.svg)

### Chargeflow

*Best for small-market merchants who want published rates and fast setup.*

Chargeflow is one of the few providers in this category that publishes pricing: 25% of recovered chargebacks and $29 per deflected chargeback. You have to admit that knowing the cost before a sales call has real value, especially for a smaller merchant.

The platform advertises a “300% increase in win rate, on average.” Like every win rate claim in this category, it’s unaudited and undefined, though.

It’s fair to say that Chargeflow was built for SMB volume, rather than the level of complexity you’d see with enterprise dispute volume.

## Can Small Businesses Use Enterprise Chargeback Management Software?

Yes. But, it’d be through their acquirer, rather than directly.

Most enterprise dispute platforms sell direct, with contract minimums that put them out of reach below a certain dispute volume. That’s the reason smaller merchants tend to end up with SMB point solutions by default, rather than by choice.

Chargebacks911 also distributes through acquirers, processors, and payment facilitators, with more than 100 such partnerships among its 944 integrations. If your acquirer is partnered with Chargebacks911, the service is typically accessed through a portal the acquirer makes available across its entire merchant base.

This means a small merchant in any vertical can get enterprise-grade representment and alerts without signing an enterprise contract. The acquirer holds the commercial relationship, and the merchant uses it like an add-on feature of their relationship with their acquirer.

Before you shop direct, ask your acquirer or processor which dispute management providers they partner with. You might already have access to Chargebacks911 or another service provider, and simply aren’t taking advantage of it.

## What to Verify Before You Buy

So, you’ve compiled your shortlist of candidates, and you’re ready to go out and try to choose the best chargeback management software provider for your needs.

What, exactly, are your needs, though? Before you make your decision, you need to think about:

### Which You’re Actually Buying For

Name the problem first. “Reduce chargebacks” is two unrelated problems: losing revenue, and losing standing with your acquirer. Different tools fix each.

### Whether it Protects Your Ratio or Only Your Revenue

Under most network calculations, a successful representment returns the funds, but the chargeback still counts toward your [chargeback ratio](https://chargebacks911.com/chargeback-ratio/). Recovery protects revenue. Only prevention and deflection protect the count. If you’re approaching a [monitoring program](https://chargebacks911.com/high-risk/high-risk-merchants/merchant-monitoring-programs/) threshold, a recovery-only tool will not get you back under it.

### Amex & Discover Coverage

Confirm coverage specifically if either network carries meaningful volume for you, because support is uneven across this category.

### What are Your Realistic Expectations?

Calibrate your expectations. American Express and Discover act as both issuer and network, so they hold a stake in the outcome of disputes they adjudicate. Representment on those networks is possible and worth pursuing, but success rates tend to run below what the same evidence achieves on Visa and Mastercard. A vendor who promises otherwise is overselling.

### What Share of Disputes Get Represented?

Ask for the coverage rate, not the win rate. A vendor that represents more disputes, and produces a moderate win rate, usually returns more money than one that cherry-picks the easiest cases.

### Integration & Ownership

API or file transfer? Who builds it? How long did the last implementation take on your platform? Whether rule changes are self-service or require a support ticket, because the second answer means every tuning cycle runs on the vendor’s calendar.

### Pricing Units & Minimums

Percentage of recovery, per alert, per transaction, and percentage of order value don’t compare directly. Convert each into a monthly cost that you can compare against your own dispute and transaction volume. And ask where the minimum sits, because a contingency model with a monthly minimum is only performance-based above that line.

Going back to what I said right at the beginning: I think Chargebacks911 is the right pick for the best chargeback management software. Our platform works for enterprise merchants, as well as small- to medium-size businesses, with comprehensive end-to-end coverage.

But you don’t have to take my word for it.

## FAQs

### What is the best chargeback management software?

For enterprise merchants needing full-lifecycle dispute management, Chargebacks911 combines alerts-based deflection, automated representment, root cause diagnostics, and a performance-based ROI guarantee. The broader answer depends on which job you need: prevention platforms like Riskified and Kount address third-party fraud, guarantee models like Signifyd transfer liability, and dispute specialists like Chargebacks911 and Justt recover revenue and address first-party misuse.

### How much does chargeback management software cost?

Most providers in this category don’t publish rates. Among those that do, Chargeflow charges 25% of recovered chargebacks plus $29 per deflected chargeback, and Signifyd charges a percentage of approved order value. Alert pricing across the category typically runs in the range of $30 per resolved alert. Because these units differ, the only reliable comparison converts each model into a monthly cost against your own volume.

### Does chargeback management software reduce my chargeback ratio?

Prevention and deflection tools can. Recovery tools generally don’t. Under most network calculations, winning a representment returns the disputed funds, but the chargeback still counts toward your ratio, which means a recovery-only solution won’t move you back below a monitoring program threshold.

### Can chargeback software stop friendly fraud?

Fraud screening can’t, because the cardholder is legitimate and the transaction passes every check. What works against first-party misuse is pre-dispute data sharing through inquiry tools, root cause analysis to find the recurring patterns behind it, and representment built specifically for cases where the cardholder authorized the purchase.

### Can a small business get enterprise chargeback management?

Yes, usually through your acquirer or processor rather than a direct contract. Chargebacks911 maintains more than 100 acquirer and processor partnerships, and merchants of any size whose acquirer is a partner can typically access the service through a portal the acquirer provides. Ask your processor which providers they partner with before shopping direct.

### Are chargeback win rate claims reliable?

No. They aren’t audited, and vendors don’t share a definition of a win, a measurement period, or a denominator. A provider paid on contingency also has an incentive to fight only its strongest cases, which inflates the win rate while reducing total recovery. Ask what share of your disputes a vendor will represent instead.
